The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Iloilo 3rd District Engineering Office has completed the widening of the Iloilo East Coast Capiz Road, significantly easing traffic flow and boosting tourism in northern Iloilo towns.
The ₱49-million project encompasses the construction of a 2.9-kilometer long Portland Cement Concrete Pavement (PCCP) road, complete with pedestrian sidewalks, concrete-covered and open canals, and slope protection structures.
Regional Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel emphasized the positive impact of the improved road on tourism and the local economy. “The widened road offers a more convenient road network, making it easier for travelers to reach the stunning beaches and many natural wonders in the municipalities of Ajuy, Concepcion, Estancia, Carles, and other surrounding areas,” Oropel said.
“This improved road will attract more tourists and will also provide farmers and fisherfolk in northern Iloilo with better road amenities,” he added.
In addition, District Engineer Palmera highlighted the project’s benefits for the local agricultural and fishing industries. “This better road system will facilitate cost-efficient and shorter time delivery of products to the market, benefiting our local farmers and fisherfolk,” Palmera explained.
