Iloilo seeks police help for illegal parking issue

The Iloilo City government is enlisting police assistance to address the issue of big trucks parking illegally along the coastal road.

These vehicles were allegedly parked on the coastal road traversing Loboc, Lapuz, and Balantang in the Jaro district.

“I already asked for the help of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) and the Traffic and Transportation Management Office for the clearing operation, and we will see what we can do about that,” Mayor Jerry Treñas said in a press conference.

The mayor specifically called on the Anti-Squatting and Illegal Structures Unit and the Highway Patrol Group to tackle the incidents of illegal on-road parking in the city.

Treñas’ statement comes in response to a tragic incident where a 23-year-old man died after his motorcycle collided with a parked trailer truck in Loboc, Lapuz.

He emphasized the need for immediate action to prevent further accidents and ensure road safety.

“Back then, our problem was that they were on the coastal road, and that has been resolved already,” he added.

“We donated big motorcycles to our traffic division in the ICPO. Hopefully, they will make use of them, and the highway patrol will also be mobilized,” he stressed.

The city government is still awaiting the arrival of the 150 wheel clamps procured earlier this year.

These clamps are intended to deter unlawful parking, with fifty allocated for four-wheeled vehicles, motorcycles, and bicycles.
