ROXAS CITY, Capiz — Two individuals were beaten early Sunday morning, August 4, at the public plaza of Dumarao, Capiz.
The police identified the victims as Bobet Escalera Tolentino, 34, a laborer and resident of Brgy. Janguslob, and Stephen John Tolentino Castro, 18, of Brgy. Taslan, both in Dumarao town.
An investigation conducted by the Dumarao PNP station indicated that Castro, while under the influence of alcohol, was shouting for a fight at the public plaza around 1:50 a.m. Castro allegedly punched an unidentified person he encountered. The person ran towards Dumarao Central School and sought assistance from his colleagues.
Castro and Tolentino chased after him, throwing stones that hit the tent shelter of Leo Mationg, Patric Van Escat, and Alexander Carbona, who were with their partners.
As a result, Mationg, Escat, and Carbona took turns mauling the two despite their apologies.
Castro and Tolentino sustained injuries and were brought to a hospital in Dumarao for treatment.
The police are conducting an investigation into the incident.
Dumarao is celebrating its annual municipal fiesta from August 1 to 5, 2024.
