The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has warned barangay officials and the public against individuals who extort money under the guise of solicitation.

These “dubious individuals” allegedly make threats to coerce their targets into giving in to their demands.

Colonel Kim Legada, Iloilo City police chief, said the ICPO has received multiple complaints in recent weeks about individuals contacting barangay officials and community members, pretending to solicit money for a cause.

In reality, they demand financial contributions using intimidation tactics.

Legada stated that these activities have raised significant concerns about public safety and community trust.

He urged barangay officials to remain vigilant and actively inform their communities about these fraudulent practices.

“It is crucial that any suspicious activity or individuals making unwarranted solicitations be reported immediately to local law enforcement agencies,” Legada said.

Residents are also advised not to entertain or provide any form of support to these suspicious individuals.

Instead, they should report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or the ICPO hotline at 335-0299 or 0908-377-0194.

Legada also encouraged the public to report to the nearest law enforcement offices if they encounter suspicious individuals.

He assured that the ICPO remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of the community.

“By working together, we can help prevent these malicious activities and protect our neighborhoods from abuse,” he said.

The city police chief also counseled the public to be cautious when dealing with individuals soliciting cash or kind, especially if they are unable to provide legitimate identification or proof of their intentions.

“Rest assured that ICPO is fully addressing the situation, so there is no need to panic or worry,” Legada said.
