The Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference is set for another exciting day as the unbeaten Akari Chargers and the joint No. 2 HD Spikers prepare to take on their struggling opponents in today’s (Thursday) matches at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.
The Akari Chargers, currently enjoying a flawless 6-0 record, will face their sister team, the Nxled Chameleons, who have only secured one victory in six games.
Akari, once considered an underdog, has defied expectations this season, securing the first quarterfinal berth and reigniting their aspirations under the leadership of Oly Okaro.
Since their league debut in 2022, Akari had never finished higher than seventh, but this season’s impressive start has shifted their outlook.
“Our flawless start is a testament to our hard work and the exceptional value we bring to our team and supporters,” said Okaro.
Key players such as Ivy Lacsina, who has stepped up her game, and Grethcel Soltones, who has rediscovered her fierce form, have been pivotal in Akari’s rise.
The Chargers’ integration of talents like Ced Domingo, Camille Victoria, Joy Soyud, and Ezra Madrigal into coach Taka Minowa’s system has further solidified their dominance.
On the other hand, Nxled is in a desperate search for answers to salvage their lackluster campaign.
With only one win under their belt, the Chameleons, led by import Meegan Hart and local talents Jho Maraguinot, May Luna, and Trisha Genesis, will need a miracle to turn their season around and avoid elimination.
In the main event at 5 p.m., the HD Spikers, tied with PLDT at a 5-1 slate, are heavily favored against the winless Galeries Tower Highrisers.
The HD Spikers boast a strong lineup, including the powerful MJ Perez and local standouts Ces Molina and Gel Cayuna.
Despite Galeries Tower’s near-upset against Akari last weekend, where they forced a fifth set, the Highrisers will need to overcome significant odds to stun Cignal.
Another key match features Capital1 taking on Farm Fresh at 1 p.m. The Solar Spikers, currently in joint fourth place with a 4-2 record, are looking to extend their winning streak.
Led by league-leading scorer Marina Tushova, who recently set a conference record with 49 points, Capital1 is expected to dominate.
Farm Fresh, with a 2-4 record, still has a chance to advance to the knockout phase, but they will need consistent performances from Yeny Murillo, Trisha Tubu, and others to challenge the in-form Capital1 squad.
Today’s matches are broadcast live on Pilipinas Live, RPTV, One Sports, One Sports+, and pvl.ph.
