BACOLOD CITY — A 68-year-old man died of suspected dengue last month, according to the City Health Office (CHO).
Dr. Grace Tan, head of the CHO Environment and Sanitation Division, confirmed on Wednesday that the patient, a resident of Barangay Felisa, was the second suspected dengue fatality in the city this year.
He reportedly developed a fever on July 16 and succumbed to the illness on July 30.
The CHO also confirmed that an 18-year-old girl from Barangay Estefania, who died in July after contracting a fever on July 19, was the city’s first confirmed dengue fatality this year.
She was admitted to the hospital on July 21 and passed away on July 27.
As of August 3, Bacolod City recorded 434 dengue cases, marking a 36.9 percent increase from the 317 cases reported from January to August last year, which included three fatalities.
Barangays with the highest dengue cases this year include Taculing (60), Bata (41), Villamonte (32), Granada, Estefania, and Mansilingan (27 each), Cabug (24), Alijis (21), Banago and Mandalagan (20 each), Tangub (17), and Sum-ag (16).
