BORACAY ISLAND, Aklan – GCash, the Philippines’ leading finance super app, has partnered with the Municipality of Malay to enhance cash-lite tourism in Boracay through the town’s unified ticketing payment system, eBoracay.
Through the eBoracay platform, visitors can easily pay for terminal, environmental, and boat fees at Tabon Port of Malay, with more access points expected to join soon.
The system, powered by Surepay Technologies Inc. (SPTI), provides a seamless and cashless experience for those visiting the popular island destination.
“The unified automated process and cashless payments will be available in more access ports going to Boracay, as we help build a secure and seamless cashless ecosystem that supports the sustainable development of one of the best islands in the world,” said Jong Layug, group head of GCash B2B.
Atty. Arnold Caballero, President of SPTI, welcomed the partnership, emphasizing the significance of a unified ticketing payment system.
“The enactment resolutions by LGU of Malay paved the way for a unified ticketing payment system which is aimed to consolidate processes and automate payments. It’s really quick and tourists will no longer have to write anything manually or take out from their wallet and look for the cash,” Caballero said.
To further enhance the cashless experience, GCash also offers features like GCredit and GGives, allowing tourists to extend their travel budget or pay for transactions in installments.
These options provide flexibility and convenience, enabling visitors to enjoy activities such as Paraw sailing, Puka Beach tours, and dining at Boracay’s famous restaurants without the need to carry cash.
Malay Mayor Frolibar Bautista praised the initiative, noting that it not only benefits tourists but also local residents.
“Tourists no longer have to bring cash around and can easily pay in advance before their arrival on the island. Even local residents need not have to fall in line as they can be booked through the system if they so desire in the project’s next phase,” Bautista said.
This partnership is part of a broader effort to promote sustainable and convenient tourism on Boracay Island, ensuring that both locals and tourists can enjoy a hassle-free experience while contributing to the island’s development.
