BACOLOD CITY – A cash reward ranging from P20,000 to P50,000 will be awarded to anyone who can provide information that helps the police resolve unsolved killings in the city.
Mayor Alfredo “Albee” Benitez initially announced the reward system a few weeks ago, with the specific amounts being revealed after discussions with Police Colonel Joeresty Coronica, officer-in-charge of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).
Police Lieutenant Rowena Jean Magan, BCPO spokesperson, said the city police force has formed a technical working group (TWG), led by Coronica, to screen and validate the information provided and assess its significance to the progress of the cases.
Magan said the BCPO is establishing parameters to guide the reward system, which will help determine the amount to be awarded to informants.
The police are currently reviewing the unsolved cases and the timelines involved.
She added that the procedure for claiming the reward will be announced once all necessary documents have been gathered.
Since assuming his position last July, Coronica proposed the reward system to Mayor Benitez as a way to encourage witnesses to come forward and cooperate with the police, thereby fulfilling their social responsibility to help solve crimes.
