The 5150 Triathlon Dapitan is set for an exciting return this Sunday, Sept. 8, in Zamboanga del Norte, promising a bigger and more thrilling edition than its inaugural run last year.
Featuring a diverse mix of seasoned competitors and rising stars, the event challenges participants in the historic city of Dapitan, where the endurance race takes place against a backdrop rich in cultural heritage.
New champions will be crowned this year, as reigning titleholders Fer Casares and Kim Mangrobang are unable to defend their titles due to prior commitments.
Despite their absence, the competition remains fierce, with top triathletes and emerging talents ready to compete in the grueling 1.5-kilometer swim, 40-kilometer bike ride, and 10-kilometer run.
Mayor Seth “Bullet” Jalosjos and the Dapitan community are going all out to ensure a unique and memorable race.
With aspirations of hosting an IRONMAN 70.3 event in the future, Dapitan is fast becoming a must-visit sports tourism destination, blending athletic excellence with a rich historical narrative.
“As excitement builds for 5150 Dapitan and the Go for Gold Sunrise Sprint, we cannot overlook the perfect fusion of sports and heritage this event represents,” Mayor Jalosjos said.
“Dapitan has always been proud of its rich history, and now it is emerging as a sports tourism destination.”
In addition to the men’s and women’s overall championships, titles in various age categories will also be contested.
The event is organized by The IRONMAN Group and supported by Lungsod ng Dapitan, Go for Gold, Santé, Manila Bulletin, and Tempo.
So far, over 1,000 athletes, including more than 700 in the 5150 triathlon, have confirmed their participation in the race, which debuted last year in Dapitan City—an iconic location where national hero Dr. Jose Rizal was exiled.
The triathlon will begin with a swim at Sta. Cruz beach near Punto del Desembarco De Rizal en Dapitan. The bike course will traverse the Dipolog-Oroquieta National Road, while the run will wind through scenic and historic streets lined with enthusiastic spectators.
Adding to the excitement is the Go for Gold Sunrise Sprint, featuring a 750-meter open-water swim, a 20-kilometer bike ride, and a 5-kilometer run.
Festivities kick off Saturday, Sept. 7, with the Noli Run, a 4-kilometer fun run, setting the stage for the main event with more than 300 runners expected. For details, visit www.ironman.com/5150-dapitan-philippines-register.
