A 36-year-old man died from multiple stab wounds following an altercation with his brother-in-law just after midnight on September 28 in Janiuay, Iloilo.
The victim, identified as Benjie Amahit, a resident of Barangay Jibolo, Janiuay, sustained at least 10 stab wounds to various parts of his body.
Reports stated that Amahit arrived at the house of his sister and brother-in-law in Barangay Golgota, Janiuay, around 12:15 a.m. on Saturday.
Drunk and arriving late, his brother-in-law, Jobel Labaro, 56, tried to prevent him from entering the house.
Amahit allegedly attempted to force his way inside, leading to a heated argument between the two.
Labaro reportedly grabbed a knife and repeatedly stabbed the victim.
Lieutenant Josette Damasco, Janiuay’s deputy police chief, said the motive behind Amahit’s visit was unclear, but reports suggest he wanted to retrieve something from inside the house and was unwilling to wait until he sobered up.
Labaro was immediately arrested at the scene and reportedly showed remorse for his actions. Damasco also noted that the victim’s mother has expressed her intention to file charges against her son-in-law.
