The Philippine Statistics Authority Regional Statistical Services Office VI (PSA RSSO VI), in coordination with the City Civil Registrar’s Office, conducted mobile civil registration activities in Barangay Guzman-Jesena, Mandurriao, and Barangay Balantang, Jaro, Iloilo City, on August 2 and 30, 2024, respectively.
Led by Statistical Specialist Il Jean Lito N. Esapol and Birth Registration Agent Michael Goddard A. Buenaflor, the mobile registration activities were carried out in partnership with City Civil Registrar Cherie J. Ampig. Both barangays’ punong barangays—Roseller J. Paredes of Guzman-Jesena and Allan S. Jastia of Balantang—welcomed the PSA team and City Civil Registrar personnel to the events.
Esapol delivered an overview of civil registration, discussing the importance of civil registry documents and the details of Republic Act 9048, which covers the correction of clerical errors in civil registry documents. City Civil Registrar Ampig also emphasized the city’s free mobile registration program, an initiative of Mayor Jerry P. Trenas.
Services provided during the mobile registration included assistance for residents needing corrections in their civil registry documents and late birth certificate registration, particularly for senior citizens. The PSA PhilSys team also registered national IDs for those who had not yet signed up, focusing on children aged one to five years.
In total, 25 residents from Barangay Guzman-Jesena and 42 from Barangay Balantang availed themselves of the civil registration services, ensuring that no resident is left without proper identity documentation. Both punong barangays expressed their gratitude for the collaborative efforts of the PSA and City Civil Registrar in providing much-needed services to their communities.
PSA Participates in Indigenous People’s Health Summit
PSA RSSO VI also participated in the 2nd Western Visayas Indigenous People’s Health Summit held from August 8 to 10, 2024, at Punta Villa Resort in Arevalo, Iloilo City. The summit, organized by the Department of Health Western Visayas—Center for Health Development, focused on improving health service delivery for Indigenous Cultural Communities (ICCs) and Indigenous Peoples (IPs) in the region.
During the summit, PSA highlighted its contributions to the welfare of Indigenous Peoples through its Birth Assistance Project (BRAP) and mobile registration services, both of which help ensure that ICCs and IPs have access to essential civil documentation. The PSA’s services are crucial in empowering Indigenous communities by affirming their identity and facilitating their access to rights and opportunities.
