GCash Marks 20 Years of Empowering Filipinos

GCash, the Philippines’ leading finance super app, celebrates 20 years of promoting financial inclusion and empowering millions of Filipinos with accessible financial services.

Founded as an SMS-based e-money transfer service, GCash has grown into a transformative platform, becoming the country’s first $5-billion unicorn. As of the end of 2023, more than 94 million Filipinos have used GCash, revolutionizing their access to savings, loans, insurance, and other financial services.

“Over the past 20 years, we’ve worked hard to provide more Filipinos with access to financial services,” said GCash President and CEO Martha Sazon. “Now, we aim to be their partner in achieving financial health and wellness.”

GCash is a key player in financial inclusion, with 90% of its users from lower socioeconomic classes, 70% residing outside Metro Manila, and 57% being women. The app has also brought financial services to marginalized groups, including farmers and fisherfolk.

GCash empowers everyday Filipinos by providing a user-friendly platform where they can transact, save, invest, and access credit without needing a traditional bank account. The app also supports 6 million merchants, including micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), helping them manage their finances and connect with customers across the country.

In addition to everyday transactions, GCash provides financial tools for emergencies. GLoan, GGives, and GCredit offer fair and accessible loans, disbursing PHP 135 billion to date, helping Filipinos cover urgent needs and providing financial security.

GCash’s GScore system assesses loan worthiness based on users’ transaction histories, making loans more accessible without the need for collateral. The loan process is fully digital, ensuring a seamless experience from application to repayment.

The app also offers GInsure, which provides affordable insurance products, including life, health, and travel coverage, with premiums as low as PHP 10 per month. GInsure even supports inclusive policies, allowing same-sex couples to designate partners as beneficiaries.

GCash aims to improve Filipinos’ financial futures through GSave, GInvest, GFunds, and GStocks. GSave, with no minimum deposit or maintaining balance, has attracted over 10 million users, boosting the country’s savings account holders to 65%.

GInvest, which allows users to invest in funds, stocks, and crypto for as low as PHP 50, has driven an 11% increase in Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) accounts, with one in five PSE accounts now linked to GCash.

With these services, GCash has positioned itself as a key partner in helping Filipinos manage their finances and build a secure future.
