As in previous years, bringing and consuming liquor and alcoholic beverages will be prohibited inside private and public cemeteries, memorial parks, columbaria, and similar places in Iloilo City during the observance of All Souls’ Day and All Saints’ Day or collectively called “Undas”.

Additionally, items such as firearms (except those with security clearance), sharp objects (including knives and cutters), and gambling paraphernalia will be banned.

Executive Order 138, Series of 2024, outlines further restrictions beyond liquor and weapons.

From 12:00 a.m. on Oct. 31, 2024, until 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 2, 2024, the use of drones and overnight stays will be prohibited under EO No. 138.

The order also bans videoke and other sound devices that produce loud noise.

Colonel Kim Legada, Iloilo City police chief, said the order will be strictly enforced along with additional security measures.

With the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) on heightened alert, Legada said security preparations have been mapped out to ensure the safety of residents and visitors as they pay their respects to departed loved ones.

As part of comprehensive security measures, the ICPO will increase police presence in and around cemeteries, churches, and public gathering areas.

Traffic enforcers will also be deployed to manage the expected increase in vehicle volume and prevent congestion near cemeteries and other high-traffic zones.

Legada said Police Assistance Desks (PADS) will be set up at key locations to assist the public and respond to emergencies.

The ICPO will coordinate with medical teams and emergency responders to provide immediate assistance if necessary.

Apart from security preparations, Legada emphasized the importance of public cooperation.

“With thousands of visitors expected at cemeteries, it’s essential that we work together for a peaceful and orderly observance. Our coordination with the local government unit, barangay officials, and various stakeholders is crucial for enforcing safety measures and addressing any concerns promptly,” he said.

Legada added that the ICPO aims for zero major incidents.

The ICPO also reminded the public to take basic safety precautions, such as avoiding carrying large amounts of cash and valuables, staying vigilant, and keeping children close by.

“We encourage everyone to follow the rules and cooperate with our personnel to ensure a safe and peaceful Undas,” he said.

Additionally, the ICPO urged residents to secure their homes while they are away, as burglary and theft incidents tend to increase during this event and the upcoming holiday season.

Legada also asked for community support in reporting any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or via the ICPO hotline numbers 0908-377-0194 and 335-0299.
