BACOLOD CITY – A 53-year-old man was fatally stabbed by his son, reportedly under the influence of illegal drugs, at their home in Hacienda Bacsay, Barangay Robles, La Castellana, Negros Occidental, last Tuesday.

Police identified the victim as Rolando Mosquera Sr.

According to Police Major Rhojn Darell Nigos, the town police chief, the victim had just returned home after digging soil to plant a banana tree when his 21-year-old son allegedly attacked him with a knife, stabbing him in the chest.

The victim managed to run and sought help from relatives nearby. He was taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead, Nigos said.

Police later arrested the suspect, who was found hiding in the grass by the roadside. Although he initially resisted, officers subdued him.

Authorities recovered a knife, a small sachet of suspected shabu worth PHP544, two lighters, and a green curtain with bloodstains from the suspect.

Nigos reported that the suspect allegedly committed the crime due to a belief that the pit his father dug was intended to bury him alive.

He added that the suspect’s parents had sent him back to the province earlier this year after discovering his alleged involvement in illegal drugs in Bicol.

The suspect reportedly had previous conflicts with his family due to his behavior.

The suspect was subjected to a drug test and faces charges for parricide as well as an additional case for illegal drugs, Nigos said.
