BACOLOD CITY — A couple died, and their teenage daughter was injured after their motorcycle collided with a van at Sitio Canlayuhan, Purok Mani, Barangay Gil Montilla, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental, on All Souls’ Day, Nov. 2.
The accident claimed the lives of Jerom Erosido, 34, and his wife, Elpidia, both residents of Barangay Camindangan.
Their daughter, Ana Rose Erosido, 18, sustained injuries.
Police Capt. Jose Michael Muñez, deputy chief of the Sipalay City Police Station, said the family was riding a motorcycle driven by Jerom.
They were trailing a tricycle when Jerom attempted to overtake while approaching a curve in the road.
An oncoming van, driven by a 41-year-old resident of Silay City, encroached on the motorcycle’s lane, resulting in a head-on collision, Muñez said.
The Erosido couple was later pronounced dead at the hospital, while their injured daughter was transferred to another hospital for further treatment.
The van, reportedly carrying a family on an excursion to the southern part of the province, was involved in the crash around 7:30 a.m.
The van driver and his passengers were unharmed, Muñez said.
Muñez added that the van driver was placed in police custody and will be released after the 18-hour reglementary detention.
The victims’ family is set to meet with the van driver on Tuesday, Nov. 5, for a possible settlement.
