SSS Launches SMS-OTP Verification, Urges Members to Update Contact Info

The Social Security System (SSS) today urged its members to update their contact information, especially mobile numbers, as the state-run pension fund implemented multi-factor authentication (MFA) for logins to the My.SSS Portal.

SSS Officer-in-Charge Voltaire P. Agas said the agency had proactively added an authentication process for My.SSS account logins to enhance the portal’s security.

Agas said a one-time passcode will be sent to members’ registered mobile numbers in SSS records whenever they access their My.SSS accounts. He noted that outdated or inactive contact information can prevent members from successfully logging in.

“Updating your contact info ensures you receive verification codes to confirm your identity when signing in to your online account,” Agas added, emphasizing the importance of keeping contact details current.

Updating Options: Online or Branch Offices

Agas, who also serves as SSS Executive Vice President for the Branch Operations Sector, stated that members can update their contact information either online or at any SSS branch.

“If you have an existing mobile number in the SSS database but no longer use that number, you can update your details through your My.SSS account,” he explained.

For members without a registered mobile number, he advised submitting a Member Data Change Request form at any SSS branch nationwide.

He also noted that members needing help with the My.SSS Portal can visit e-centers in SSS branch offices. “We have e-centers with SSS personnel ready to assist and guide members in using the My.SSS Portal,” he said.

Authentication Options

SSS Senior Vice President for Information Technology Management Maria Belinda S. San Jose explained that SSS members have two options for multi-factor authentication when accessing their My.SSS accounts: SMS One-Time Password (SMS-OTP) and Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP).

San Jose said SMS-OTP is the default option, with a six-digit passcode sent to the member’s registered mobile number each time they log in. This additional verification highlights the need for updated contact numbers.

“Members may also use TOTP as their preferred authentication method,” she said. “They can enter a verification code from the Google Authenticator app to access their My.SSS account.”

San Jose added that these two authentication methods bolster the portal’s security, reducing the risk of unauthorized access and potential fraud.
