The University of the Philippines Visayas Regional Research Center (UPV RRC) Engineering Section conducted a seminar-worksop titled “Powering Up: Mastering Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) Systems for Critical Facilities” last November 6, 2024 at the UPV RRC Audio Visual Room, UP Visayas Miagao Campus. The seminar-workshop aimed to better understand the basics, importance, and how to design Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) Systems in critical facilities.
The technical seminar had 26 representatives coming from UPV’s colleges and units, who oversee laboratory and IT facilities, along with participants from the University of Antique, University of San Agustin, and Capiz State University.
Engr. Vincent John D. Fuentes, head of the UPV RRC Engineering Section was the technical speaker for the seminar-workshop. He introduced the different UPS Systems including its components and operations, basic maintenance and troubleshooting, real world applications and UPS sizing and design.
During the workshop, the participants had a hands-on activity on the proper sizing and design of the UPS System based on the laboratory, facility or equipment requirements. The objective was to introduce the importance of identifying necessary technical specifications in their respective UPS Systems procurement processes in the future. Afterwhich, they went for a short tour on the actual centralized modular UPS System of the RRC Laboratory.
This technical seminar-workshop marks the beginning of the UPV RRC Engineering Section’s series of technical activities, with plans of continuing to next year. (Written by Ms. Reyna Fe N. Quilantang, OVCRE; with sources from UPV RRC)
