Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT), a fully automated container terminal operated by International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) at the Port of Melbourne, has received official approval to conduct 14.4 Rural Tailgate Inspections. This approval reinforces VICT’s commitment to streamlining biosecurity compliance for containers bound for rural areas across Victoria.
The approval comes after the Australian Government’s Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry extended its policy to include a broader range of sea freight containers eligible for inspection under Approved Arrangement Class 14.4 – Rural Tailgate Inspection.
The tailgate inspection is a critical biosecurity measure designed to identify and mitigate risks associated with imported sea containers. VICT now provides this service on-site at its facility in Webb Dock. By conducting inspections at its terminal, VICT reduces the need for additional container transfers, saving time and costs for stakeholders in Victoria’s supply chain.
For customs brokers, importers, and biosecurity industry participants, VICT’s on-dock inspection service eliminates the need to move containers off-site for biosecurity clearance. Containers destined for rural Victoria can undergo mandatory biosecurity checks at VICT, enabling faster release and lowering overall logistics expenses.
VICT’s certified and trained staff, equipped with specialized tools and expertise, are prepared to handle a variety of container types, including dry boxes, reefers, open tops, and ISO tankers. This ensures compliance with the highest biosecurity standards while offering tailored services to meet diverse needs.
