ROXAS CITY, Capiz — Employees from various Capiz establishments have been equipped with lifesaving skills through a free three-day Standard First Aid Training conducted by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Office VI, in partnership with the Capiz Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) and Provincial Health Office.
Held from November 11 to 13, 2024, at the Alunsina Hotel and Spa in Roxas City, the training aimed to enhance workplace safety by upskilling participants in handling emergencies.
With the theme “First Aid Heroes: Empowering Workforce in Emergency Situations,” the event aligns with DOLE’s mandate to strengthen adherence to Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) standards under Republic Act No. 11058.
DOLE Regional Director Sixto T. Rodriguez Jr. emphasized the importance of fostering health and safety in workplaces, particularly amid recent wage increases.
“We urge employers to complement the new wage guidelines with proper implementation of safety measures, ensuring workers, especially those in vulnerable sectors, receive fair compensation and work in safe environments,” Rodriguez said.
The training featured practical and theoretical sessions led by experts, including DOLE Capiz Field Office Director Joselito G. Dela Banda and Assistant DRRM-H Manager Jasmin G. Gallaza-Rabe. Participants gained valuable insights into responding to workplace emergencies, such as injuries, accidents, and medical conditions.
The initiative also supports private establishments in fulfilling safety compliance requirements while promoting a culture of preparedness among employees.
Businesses in Capiz welcomed the program, recognizing its role in safeguarding workers and improving operational resilience.
The event demonstrates DOLE’s proactive approach to ensuring workplace safety and protecting the welfare of employees across the region.
