BACOLOD CITY – Silay City Mayor Joedith Gallego and former Mayor Mark Golez expressed deep sorrow over the sudden death of former Mayor Carlo Gamban.
“It is with a heavy heart that I join the people of Silay City in mourning the passing of our beloved former Mayor Gamban,” Gallego said in a statement, extending heartfelt condolences to Gamban’s family.
Gallego said he would always treasure the late mayor’s thoughtful advice and unwavering support, describing Gamban as a mentor.
He emphasized that Gamban was more than a public servant, calling him a beacon of wisdom, humility, and dedication to the community.
“His leadership left an indelible mark on Silay City, and his selfless service continues to inspire us,” Gallego said.
Gallego added that Gamban’s guidance would remain a source of strength as the city pursues progress.
“Let us honor his memory by upholding the values he held dear and working together to build the brighter future he envisioned for Silay City,” he said.
Former Mayor Golez also paid tribute to Gamban, remembering him as a remarkable leader.
“Today, we mourn not just the loss of a former mayor, but the passing of a visionary leader, a compassionate soul, and a dear friend who left an indelible mark on Silay City,” Golez said in a Facebook post.
Golez noted that during Gamban’s tenure, he inspired, uplifted, and transformed the city.
“The weight of his departure is heavy, and we are left grappling with questions we may never fully answer,” he said.
“But even in this pain, let us remember the joy he brought, the lives he touched, and the legacy he built,” he added.
Golez urged residents to honor Gamban by continuing the work he began, striving for the city of compassion, innovation, and boundless possibilities that Gamban envisioned.
Gamban, 85, was found dead Monday afternoon inside his bedroom with apparent gunshot wounds to both temples. Police are investigating the incident as a possible case of accidental firing.
Recovered from the scene were a slug and an unidentified caliber revolver. Authorities are determining whether the firearm belonged to Gamban and whether it was licensed. The recovered evidence will undergo ballistic testing.
Gamban had reportedly been suffering from an illness for weeks. He served as mayor of Silay City from 2001 to 2007.
