ROXAS CITY, Capiz — Roxas City has been reclassified as a second-class city, moving up from its previous third-class status, according to the latest results from the Department of Finance.
Mayor Ronnie Dadivas expressed his joy over the city’s elevation, calling it a significant milestone for the capital of Capiz.
Dadivas attributed the city’s improved classification to higher income, increased employment, and expanded business opportunities in recent years.
When he assumed office in 2019, Dadivas said the city faced challenges with low revenue collection and a limited Internal Revenue Allotment.
He noted that meeting the Department of Finance’s new income brackets and strict requirements for reclassification posed a significant challenge.
“But because of honest and transparent administration, coupled with effective and sound financial management, we reached our desired goal,” Dadivas said.
The Department of Finance also announced reclassifications for several municipalities in Capiz.
Dumarao, Jamindan, and Pontevedra were elevated to first-class municipality status.
Maayon, Mambusao, Panay, Panitan, and Pilar were reclassified as second-class municipalities, while President Roxas, Sapian, and Sigma advanced to third-class status.
