The Philippine Army’s 301st Infantry Brigade has been recognized for dismantling the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG)’s Southern Panay Front.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) awarded the AFP Campaign Streamer to the 301st IB during the 89th AFP Anniversary celebration held on December 20 at the Lapu-Lapu Grandstand, Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

The Southern Panay Front (SPF) of the New People’s Army (NPA), under the Komiteng Rehiyon – Panay, operated in Antique and Iloilo provinces before being declared dismantled on June 21, 2024.

The achievement was attributed to the efforts of the 61st Infantry (Hunter) Battalion and other units under the operational control of the 301st IB.

A series of encounters in the mountainous areas of Antique and Iloilo from 2023 to 2024 led to the neutralization of over 15 SPF members.

Continuous pursuit operations prompted 20 additional NPA members to surrender and return to the fold of the law.

Brigadier General Michael Samson, commander of the 301st IB, said these neutralizations and surrenders were critical in dismantling the guerilla front.

He emphasized that the accomplishment was the result of a collective effort by units under the brigade’s operational control.

“This remarkable achievement is a manifestation of the commitment and dedication of my men on the ground in responding to their call of duty as peacemakers and protectors of the people,” Samson said.

He also acknowledged the contributions of local government units in Antique and Iloilo, as well as the Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (PTF-ELCAC) and other stakeholders.

“Their bravery and courage in leading the fight to end the communist armed conflict is a call beyond extraordinary duty,” Samson said.

“Let us continue our journey until our people have equal opportunities to experience the fruits of our labor and the blessings of democracy,” he added.

Samson called on remaining NPA rebels to surrender and embrace peace.

“I urge those remaining NPA combatants to give peace a chance and lay down your arms,” he said.

He assured that the government and the Philippine Army would ensure their safety and security during reintegration into society.

“The government and the Army will ensure your safety until you are reunited with your families and reintegrated back into normal life,” Samson said.
