The Iloilo Provincial Government has unveiled the nine tribes competing in the 2025 Kasadyahan sa Kabanwahanan during a grand launch on Dec. 22 at the SM City Northwing Activity Center.

Held in partnership with the Iloilo City Government and the Iloilo Festivals Foundation, Inc. (IFFI), the competition will celebrate Iloilo’s rich cultural heritage under the theme “Fun, Foodie, Friendly,” aligning with the national “Bagong Pilipinas” initiative.

The participating tribes are:

  • Banaag Festival of Anilao
  • Kaing Festival of Leon
  • Tawili Festival of San Rafael
  • Hirinugyaw Suguidadonay Festival of Calinog
  • Tinuom Festival of Cabatuan
  • Cry of Jelicuon Festival of New Lucena
  • Tangyan Festival of Igbaras
  • Haw-as Festival of Dumangas
  • Tultugan Festival of Maasin

Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. led the ceremonial launch, which featured a costume exhibit and tribal performance previews.

“The Kasadyahan is the cultural stage of our municipalities. Our towns are fun, foodie, and friendly. It’s a mix of culture, arts, history, and tradition,” Defensor said.

The governor also welcomed new participants this year, including Igbaras, San Rafael, Cabatuan, and Dumangas.

Significant Support and Rewards

To support the festival, the provincial government has allocated PHP 3 million in prizes.

Smaller municipalities will receive PHP 2 million each from the province’s budget, while larger towns will get PHP 1.5 million.

“This is not just about the prizes—it’s about the dungog kag bugal (honor and pride) it brings to our communities,” Defensor emphasized.

He added that the event aims to boost tourism and attract investments while enhancing the province’s and city’s reputation.

Unified Efforts for a World-Class Festival

IFFI President Allan Ryan Tan commended the collaboration between the province and city, saying it highlights Iloilo’s festivals as a must-see attraction for visitors.

“By complementing the two festivals, we aim to wow tourists,” Tan said, expressing satisfaction with the partnership’s smooth implementation.

Local leaders echoed their excitement and commitment to delivering high-caliber performances.

Maasin Mayor Francis Amboy vowed that the Tultugan Festival will defend its title with a world-class performance, declaring, “Tultugan is the heart of the champion.”

Anilao Mayor Lee Ann Debuque promised a “universe-worthy” presentation, saying their performance has been adjusted with new innovations to deliver a spotlight-worthy show.

Igbaras Mayor Vicente E. Escorpion Jr. expressed confidence in challenging the reigning champion, while Leon Municipal Administrator Atty. Glen Cababa-an pledged a globally competitive performance.
