BATANGAS CITY, Batangas — The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Regional Office MIMAROPA has assured orderliness in its facilities this holiday season as it prepares for an expected influx of visitors, service providers, and other stakeholders.
Jail Officer 3 Joefrie Anglo, Operations and Information Officer, announced on Friday that all BJMP-managed jails in the region are under red alert from December 24 to December 26 to prevent potential jailbreaks during the anticipated increase in visitors.
“All district, city, and municipal jails in the region under the BJMP will be on red alert status as we expect not only a large number of visitors but also significant movement among persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) participating in Christmas-related activities,” Anglo said in a press release.
He emphasized that the safety and security of jail facilities remain the bureau’s top priority.
“We encourage the public to cooperate with authorities and follow safety protocols to ensure peaceful and meaningful holiday celebrations through the New Year’s Eve run-up,” he added.
The BJMP manages 19 district, city, and municipal jails in the MIMAROPA region.
The Bansud District Jail houses the largest number of PDLs at 306, followed by the Brooke’s Point District Jail with 300, and the San Jose District Jail with 269.
As part of its holiday preparations, the BJMP has required assigned personnel to work without breaks during the season, with officials conducting frequent and strategic inspections of all jails.
The Regional Operations Division (ROD) also warned personnel against indiscriminate firing while welcoming the New Year.
The next red alert for the holidays will be implemented from December 31 to January 2, 2025. (Source: IO-BJMP MIMAROPA)
