Iloilo Laborer Killed in Ivisan Bolo Attack

ROXAS CITY, Capiz—A 39-year-old laborer from Dumangas, Iloilo, was hacked to death by his uncle Sunday afternoon, December 22, in Barangay Agmalobo, Ivisan, Capiz.

Police identified the victim as Clin Cordero Ocante, who was declared dead on arrival at the Ivisan Municipal Rural Health Unit. The suspect was identified as Jimmy Ursos Ocante, 49, a resident of the area.

According to an investigation by the Ivisan police, the victim and several relatives and friends were drinking at the suspect’s house when the suspect, holding a knife, suddenly challenged the group to a fight.

The suspect then went to his room, retrieved a bolo, and hacked his nephew multiple times, hitting different parts of his body.

The victim received first aid from the Arriba Ivisan Rescue Unit (AIRU) and was rushed to the Ivisan Rural Health Unit but was declared dead on arrival by the attending doctor.

A hot pursuit operation by the police led to the suspect’s arrest around 4:50 p.m. in a mountainous area of the village.

Authorities recovered a 21-inch bolo without a scabbard from the crime scene, which is believed to have been used in the attack.

The suspect was taken to Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital in Roxas City for a medical examination before being placed in the custody of the Ivisan Municipal Police Station for proper disposition.
