BACOLOD CITY – The severed body of a male fetus was discovered floating in a canal in Barangay Calindagan, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, last Wednesday.

Police Lt. Stephen Polinar, public information officer of the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (Norppo), said a resident passing by the area noticed the fetus shortly after 1 p.m.

Polinar said the fetus was in an advanced state of decomposition, with only its lower extremities recovered.

Residents speculated that the upper part of the fetus might have been bitten by a dog or carried away by the water current from another location before arriving in the canal.

The fetus was placed in a box and turned over to authorities for proper disposition.

Police said they have no leads yet on the fetus’s identity or the circumstances that led to its condition.
