Iloilo Province recorded 23 dengue cases during the first week of 2025, covering January 1 to 4, according to the Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO).
Dr. Rodney Labis, head of the IPHO Health Service Delivery Division, reported that the cases were spread across several municipalities.
Barotac Viejo and Cabatuan recorded the highest number with three cases each. Ajuy, Leon, Oton, Santa Barbara, and Tigbauan followed with two cases each.
Meanwhile, Alimodian, Estancia, Guimbal, Leganes, Maasin, Pavia, and Pototan logged one case each.
The figure reflects a 36 percent decrease compared to the same period last year, which saw 36 cases.
Dr. Labis noted that the reduction could be linked to increased testing of patients showing dengue symptoms during hospital admission.
He added that some cases from late December 2024 were officially reported only in January 2025, which influenced the current data.
Despite the drop in cases compared to last year, Labis stressed the possibility of a surge in dengue infections.
“We urge everyone to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings and follow the 5S campaign to help control dengue cases,” Labis said in a radio interview.
The 5S campaign involves searching and destroying mosquito breeding sites, using repellents and protective clothing for self-protection, seeking early medical consultation, supporting fogging and misting in hotspot areas, and ensuring proper hydration for those affected.
