BUENAVISTA, GUIMARAS – The body of a woman was discovered in a mangrove area along the shoreline of Purok Basyaw, Barangay Tanag, Buenavista, Guimaras, on Jan. 15.

Felix Niego, a 54-year-old fisherman, found the body around 6:30 a.m.

Captain Rene Cordero, chief of the Buenavista police, said the woman was naked and in an advanced state of decomposition.

The body was found in a prone position with abrasions on various parts of her body.

An initial examination revealed no visible injuries, such as stab or gunshot wounds, to indicate the cause of death. Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause.

Cordero said it is difficult to estimate the woman’s age or how long the body had been in the water due to the advanced decomposition.

“She could be around 30 years old, stood about 5’3”, and had shoulder-length hair,” Cordero said.

The Buenavista police confirmed no reports of missing persons in the area.

Authorities have sent inquiries to neighboring towns to check for any reported missing persons that could match the description.
