Residents of Barangay Quipot in Janiuay, Iloilo, no longer need to rely on the old hanging bridge to reach the town and other destinations, thanks to a newly constructed concrete bridge by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
The ₱8-million project, completed by the DPWH Iloilo 2nd District Engineering Office, features a 60-lineal-meter-long, 1.5-meter-wide concrete bridge. It provides safe and convenient access to essential services, including the market and government facilities in the town center.
Citing the report of District Engineer Allan Rey R. Pajimna, Regional Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel emphasized the bridge’s significance in improving the quality of life for Janiuay residents.
“This bridge is our commitment to enhancing the quality of life in Janiuay,” Oropel said. “It will make travel safer and more convenient while opening up opportunities for economic and social development.”
Oropel also noted the bridge’s potential to boost local tourism by providing easier access to Janiuay’s picturesque hinterlands.
“The construction of this bridge enhances accessibility for our residents and travelers, paving the way for increased tourism and economic growth,” Oropel added.
