Pedicab Driver Killed, Companion Injured in Silay

BACOLOD CITY – A 33-year-old pedicab driver was killed and his companion injured after they were shot by an unidentified assailant inside their compound at Antonio Luna Interior, Barangay Mambulac, Silay City, Negros Occidental, on Saturday.

Police Lt. Col. Mark Anthony Darroca, chief of the Silay Police, identified the fatality as Mark Britanico, a resident of the said barangay.

The injured individual was identified as Paul, 28, also a pedicab driver and a resident of the same village.

Initial investigation revealed that the two victims were having a drinking session when the assailant arrived around 8 p.m. and, without provocation, opened fire.

Britanico succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head, while Paul sustained injuries to his back.

Police recovered five spent cartridges of a .45 caliber pistol and four live rounds of ammunition from the scene.

Darroca said authorities have yet to establish a motive for the shooting and have no leads on the suspect at this time.
