Nadine Gorriceta Banusing, a 22-year-old Ilongga entrepreneur, is championing Filipino craftsmanship through her innovative brand, La Luna Jewelry.
Her mission: to make elegant, high-quality jewelry accessible while empowering local artisans across the Philippines.
What Inspired You to Pursue Entrepreneurship?
“Entrepreneurship runs in my blood,” Banusing shared. “Coming from a family of entrepreneurs, I’ve always believed that being business-minded is in our DNA. It feels natural to me—it’s part of who I am.”
Why Did You Choose the University of Asia and the Pacific?
“Growing up, I dreamed of studying abroad,” she revealed. “I even passed some prestigious schools, but what drew me to UA&P was its core values. The university nurtures a tight-knit community and offers a course that aligns perfectly with my aspirations—Entrepreneurial Management.”
Banusing explained that UA&P’s Entrepreneurial Management program is more than just theory. “It equips us with the skills to become business owners. The subjects sharpen my entrepreneurial instincts, and I love how our professors keep us grounded in current market trends. UA&P isn’t just a school; it’s a space that empowers me to grow.”
Why Jewelry, Out of All Businesses?
“I come from a lineage of jewelers—I’m part of the fourth generation, actually,” Banusing said. “As a child, I’d accompany my grandma, Dr. Sandra Sarabia Gomez, during store visits and openings. Watching her passion for the business inspired me deeply, and I fell in love with the art and craftsmanship.”
Her appreciation for jewelry was shaped by her grandma and mother. “In middle school, I would ask for new jewelry sets every year for my birthday. My grandma would indulge me, but one year, she said no. She taught me to value the pieces more, especially since the jewelry she gave me belonged to the upper market.”
That lesson inspired her to create La Luna, a brand focused on providing quality, elegant jewelry for young adults like her. “La Luna makes timeless pieces accessible to people like me when I was younger,” she added.
How Is La Luna Different From Your Family Business?
“My family’s jewelry business caters to the high-end market, focusing on luxury and exclusivity,” Banusing explained. “La Luna, on the other hand, is a brand for young adults who want stylish, affordable, yet high-quality pieces.”
La Luna’s unique edge lies in its advocacy. “We partner with local craftsmen from communities like Bataan, Bulacan, and Iloilo, giving them opportunities to showcase their skills while providing stable livelihoods. It’s not just about selling jewelry—it’s about supporting communities and preserving Filipino craftsmanship.”
What Is La Luna Jewelry?
“La Luna Jewelry is a passion project born from my love for design and my desire to make jewelry more inclusive,” Banusing said. The brand caters to students and young professionals who seek elegant yet affordable jewelry, with prices ranging from ₱899 to ₱7,000.
“We’re thrilled to announce that our first collection will launch on February 8—just in time for Valentine’s shopping!” she added. “But this season, you don’t need someone else to buy you jewelry. La Luna makes it possible to treat yourself to something beautiful and meaningful.”
Why the Name “La Luna”?
“The moon has always been a symbol of light and transformation,” Banusing shared. “I named the brand ‘La Luna’ because it represents shining in your own unique way, embracing your journey in every phase of life. Just like the moon, our pieces are meant to reflect beauty and individuality.”
What’s Next for La Luna?
Banusing is excited about the future of La Luna. “We’re already working on our second collection, which will feature accents crafted by local artisans from Iloilo. It’s my way of giving back to my hometown and highlighting the artistry of Filipino talent.”
Why Choose La Luna Jewelry?
“When you buy from La Luna, you’re investing in more than just jewelry,” Banusing said. “Each piece tells a story of elegance and meaning. You’re also supporting local artisans who pour their heart into every creation.”
La Luna is where beauty meets purpose. “It’s a brand that makes luxury accessible while empowering communities,” Banusing concluded. “Your purchase makes a difference.” (Jewelry pieces modeled by Marga Nicolas, shot at Firefly Studio)
