The Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral has unveiled the newly renovated Chapel of Lights ahead of the Feast of Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria on Feb. 2.
The chapel serves as a sacred space where devotees light candles as part of their prayers, especially during the annual feast of the Our Lady of Candles.
The cathedral said the renovation aims to provide a more conducive environment for pilgrims, allowing them to connect spiritually and find peace through introspection and prayer.
“This chapel has long been a space where prayers are whispered, supplications are offered, and light is believed to carry the hopes of the faithful to heaven,” it said.
A key addition to the chapel is a wall-mounted replica of the Blessed Mother with the Child Jesus, mirroring the revered image enshrined on the cathedral’s balcony.
“This powerful depiction of the Madonna and Child serves as a constant reminder of the faith and devotion that the Ilonggo people hold dear,” the cathedral added.
Very Rev. Msgr. Jose Marie Amado S. Delgado, PC, Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Jaro and Priest Moderator of the Sta. Ana Parish of Molo Team Ministry, led the blessing ceremony on Thursday, Jan. 30.
The cathedral expressed gratitude to the generous sponsor who contributed to the renovation and the addition of the Marian image, underscoring that these improvements go beyond aesthetics by deepening the spiritual connection of devotees.
“This renovation serves as a fitting tribute to the devotion of Ilonggos to the Blessed Mother, and we believe it will inspire more visitors to come, light a candle, and offer their prayers, knowing that their silent wishes will be heard,” the cathedral said.
