BACOLOD CITY – A 34-year-old truck driver was arrested after being caught with suspected shabu and bladed weapons during a visit to his uncle at the Talisay City Jail in Negros Occidental on Saturday.
Jail Chief Inspector Kevin Bonilla, warden of Talisay City Jail, said a sachet of suspected shabu worth PHP340 was found in the visitor’s right pocket during a routine inspection.
The suspect denied knowledge of the illegal drugs, claiming he did not know how the item ended up in his possession, according to Bonilla.
Following the discovery, the visitor voluntarily surrendered two improvised bladed weapons hidden in his slippers.
The suspect was immediately arrested, and the jail coordinated with police and Barangay Matab-ang officials to ensure a thorough response.

Bonilla noted it was the suspect’s first time visiting his uncle, who is detained at the facility.
Charges for possession of dangerous drugs have been filed against the visitor, who is now in police custody, Bonilla said.
He emphasized the Talisay City Jail’s commitment to enforcing strict security protocols to prevent illegal activities within the facility.
“These efforts are part of our ongoing mission to maintain a safe and secure environment for both personnel and Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs),” Bonilla added.
