Newly acquired superstar Anthony Davis just couldn’t catch a break after the Dallas Mavericks ruled him out for multiple weeks due to an adductor strain injury announced on February 10, 2025.

Dallas fans could only hope for what was best after Davis went down without any contact and immediately grabbed his hip area in a defensive play to contest Alperen Sengun’s drive to the basket.

Davis sustained the injury during his Mavericks debut against the Houston Rockets and was bound for a monster game, already tallying 25 points and 16 rebounds before exiting the floor heading to the team’s locker room early in the third.

The former Los Angeles Lakers star quickly electrified the crowd after dominating the shaded lane, scoring on consecutive put-back dunks while schooling the Houston frontcourt defense with his deep offensive bag at the post.

Due to his stellar two-way performance in the first half, the Mavericks were able to build their largest lead of the ball game at 21 points and looked comfortable in the second half.

When Davis went down in the early minutes of the third, the Rockets made a brief counter-run, but Kyrie Irving, Max Christie, and Naji Marshall joined hands in closing the game out during the pivotal fourth frame.

Irving orchestrated the team’s crucial offensive executions that fed the wide-open Christie from downtown, while also delivering timely drop passes to Marshall in the paint.

The veteran floor general ended the game with six assists, two steals, and two blocks, while Christie and Marshall chipped in 23 and 16 markers, respectively.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, Davis and the Mavericks are currently discussing treatment options that can help speed up his recovery.

Initially, adductor strains take two weeks to heal up, but Stein announced that Dallas may rule Davis out for a month to maintain the necessary measures including his intensive rehabilitation.
