BACOLOD CITY — Bago City Mayor Nicholas Yulo expressed deep sorrow over the untimely passing of Margarita Araneta Forés, an award-winning chef and restaurateur with strong ties to Negros.
In a statement, Yulo joined the many who loved and cherished Forés, mourning her loss.
He fondly recalled that during Bago City’s golden anniversary in 2016, Forés was honored with the city’s highest award in recognition of her remarkable achievements.
Yulo described Forés as a trailblazer who, despite her busy career and accomplishments, never forgot her roots in Bago City.
“She never forgot her hometown of Bago,” Yulo said, recalling how she treasured the valuable advice from her grandfather, Don J. Amado Araneta.
“Together with the people of Bago, her kasimanwas, we offer our prayers and extend our profound condolences to her family. She will be forever in our hearts,” the mayor added.
Forés, who passed away at 65, was the visionary behind renowned restaurants, including:
- Cibo
- Lusso
- Grace Park
- Alta
- The Loggia at Palacio de Memoria
Her son, Amado, confirmed her passing on social media on Tuesday, requesting prayers for the family during this difficult time.
Forés was named Asia’s Best Female Chef in 2016 by The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, solidifying her legacy in the culinary world.
