BACOLOD CITY – A young man died, and two others were injured after a pick-up truck crashed into a waiting shed on Araneta Street, Barangay Pahanocoy, early Saturday.

Police Lt. Col. Ramel Sarona, head of the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU), said the 29-year-old fatality was a resident of Mabinay, Negros Oriental, who was visiting someone in the city.

The injured victims were a 69-year-old man and his 58-year-old nephew, both residents of Barangay Sum-ag.

Sarona said the 23-year-old pick-up truck driver was heading home to Bago City, Negros Occidental, when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle and swerved, slamming into the waiting shed where the victims were standing around 5:15 a.m.

The younger injured victim was discharged from the hospital with minor injuries, while his uncle remains confined and is scheduled for surgery.

Sarona said all parties involved have reached an initial settlement after the driver expressed willingness to assist the victims.

The driver will be released from police custody after the 18-hour reglementary detention period lapses.
