DPWH-6 Warns Public Against Solicitation Scam Using Officials’ Names

By Mariela Angella Oladive

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office 6 has issued a public advisory warning against fraudulent solicitation attempts using the names of top officials.

According to the advisory, contractors under the DPWH Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office (DEO) reported receiving phone calls from an unidentified person posing as Regional Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel and District Engineer Mario G. Soriano.

The caller, using the mobile number 0908-152-1632, allegedly requested money to be deposited into a BPI account (4059-5961-23) under the name Veronica C. San Andres.

DPWH emphasized that neither Oropel nor Soriano authorized any solicitation in any form or for any purpose.

“The public is advised to refrain from entertaining any kind of solicitation allegedly for and on their behalf,” the statement read.

The agency urged individuals who encounter similar fraudulent activities to report them immediately.

Reports may be directed to DPWH Regional Office VI at (033) 339-7204, DPWH Iloilo 4th DEO at 0905-3056-542, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) at (033) 337-5018/335-1731, or the nearest police station.
