Iloilo City Records First Dengue Death of 2025

By Mariela Angella Oladive

Iloilo City has recorded its first dengue-related fatality of the year as cases rose to 101 as of Feb. 15, according to the city’s Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit.

Of the total cases, five remain active, 95 patients have recovered, and one death has been confirmed—a 45-year-old man from Zamora, City Proper.

The Iloilo City government is urging residents to follow the Department of Health’s 4S strategy:

  • Search and destroy mosquito breeding sites
  • Seek early consultation for fever and other symptoms
  • Secure self-protection using insect repellents and protective clothing
  • Support fogging or spraying in high-risk areas

Health officials also identified clustering of cases—three or more infections reported within four consecutive weeks—in four barangays.

Meanwhile, all municipalities in Iloilo province have reported dengue cases, totaling 592 since Jan. 1, with five confirmed deaths. This marks a 77% increase compared to the same period in 2024, when 335 cases were recorded.

Authorities continue to urge the public to take preventive measures, including keeping surroundings clean, staying vigilant, and seeking medical attention for symptoms such as dehydration, bleeding, persistent vomiting, or severe abdominal pain.

Officials stress the need for community cooperation in sustaining anti-dengue efforts to prevent further fatalities and contain the rising trend of infections.
