BACOLOD CITY – A long-standing grudge led a man to attack a barangay official with a bolo at a wake in Purok Ipil-Ipil, Barangay Tagoc, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, on Thursday night.
Police said the 49-year-old barangay councilor was attending a wake when he was attacked by a 28-year-old suspect at around 10:30 p.m.
While the victim was sitting outside, the suspect suddenly approached and hacked him in the head.
The victim remains in stable condition while recovering in a hospital.
Police Capt. Sammy Gasataya, deputy chief of the Kabankalan City Police Station, said the suspect accused the kagawad of setting him up for a drug-related arrest.
Gasataya added that the two had a recent altercation over the issue.
Authorities are still verifying the details of the incident.
The suspect was later arrested in Barangay Tagoc and will be charged with frustrated murder, Gasataya said.
