Antique Airport in San Jose de Buenavista is set to fully open soon, following the allocation of ₱125 million under the 2025 General Appropriations Act (GAA) for the completion of its terminal building and runway expansion.
Senator Loren Legarda and Congressman Antonio Agapito “AA” Legarda secured the funding to extend the runway to 1,800 meters, enabling it to accommodate larger aircraft, including Airbus models.
“In less than a decade, with the support of my brother and through the initiatives we have tirelessly pursued, the province will soon witness the full operations of Antique Airport,” Senator Legarda said.
“No longer just a quiet province on the sidelines, Antique is emerging as a vital gateway for commerce, tourism, and development.”
The redevelopment of Antique Airport began in 2016 with a 1,200-meter runway. By 2018, it was extended to 1,400 meters, allowing 80-seater propeller aircraft to land. Further expansion in 2023 increased the runway to 1,700 meters.
The latest funding will facilitate the final extension to 1,800 meters.
During an inspection, Senator Legarda emphasized the need for robust infrastructure. She directed the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to create a master plan for the airport’s drainage system to prevent flooding and to provide a comprehensive progress update.
“Ensuring the proper development of Antique Airport is crucial in strengthening our province’s connectivity and economic potential,” Legarda stated.
“Every peso allocated must translate into real progress for the people of Antique.”
