Hubon Manunulat: West Visayan Writers, in cooperation with the Sentro ng Wikang Filipino (SWF) and the Division of Professional Education of the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV), will hold Teaching Deriada: The Leoncio P. Deriada Conference on Teaching Literature and Language on April 4 – 5, 2025 at the UPV Little Theater, Iloilo City Campus.
This is the second of a series of annual conferences on Leoncio P. Deriada and his significant contributions to literature and language. This year, the conference focuses on the teaching of literature and language, that makes use of Deriada’s creative works as instructional materials, and of his critical writings as bases for designing literature lessons for use at specified grade or year levels.
SEAWRITE awardee Dr. John Iremil Teodoro of De La Salle University- Manila will deliver the keynote speech on “Pormalismong Gus-abanay: Ang Pamaagi ng Pagtuturo ayon kay Leoncio P. Deriada.”
The plenary speakers, both from UP Visayas, are Dr. Ferdinand P. Jarin (“Sa Lugar Lang: Ang mga Paglalandas ni Leoncio P. Deriada sa Panitikan ng Rehiyon at Bansa”) and Dr. Aurora Fe Bautista (A Lecture on the Teaching of Language and Literature).

The Conference will also feature the awarding ceremonies of the first-ever Leoncio P. Deriada Literary Prize Open Category, along with a book sale.
