Fresh off a dominant victory at Pradera Verde, Angelo Que is targeting another win at the ICTSI Eagle Ridge Championship, which begins Monday at the Faldo course in Gen. Trias, Cavite.
The 46-year-old veteran, who secured a six-shot victory over rookie Carl Corpus, believes his experience and current form give him an edge over the competition.
“At my age, I can still win – I proved it at Pradera Verde,” Que said, referring to his wire-to-wire victory in the Philippine Golf Tour (PGT) season opener.
With momentum on his side, Que has set his sights on a second consecutive title.
“I believe I can still compete with the young ones,” he said. “I’m strong, I’m healthy, and experience-wise, I have the edge.”
Que pointed to fellow veteran Tony Lascuña as an example of how experience can still prevail in professional golf.
“Tony has shown that experience still counts, and I believe I can do the same,” Que said.
He also credits his resurgence to settling down on the local circuit.
“I have peace of mind now. My schedule is based at home, I know my family is safe, and I can see my wife and kids anytime,” said Que, who previously spent months competing abroad.
While Que and Lascuña represent the old guard, a new wave of young talents, including Corpus, Aidric Chan, Lloyd Go, Sean Ryan Monsalve, and Jaehyun Jung, are eager to challenge the veterans.
The Eagle Ridge Championship promises to be highly competitive, with notable names such as Guido van der Valk, Michael Bibat, Keanu Jahns, Reymon Jaraula, Clyde Mondilla, Jhonnel Ababa, Jay Bayron, and Zanieboy Gialon also competing.
Que plans to play the first three PGT tournaments while considering stints on the Asian Tour and the International Series.
“It depends on the schedule – if the tournaments abroad clash with the PGT, I’ll have to decide. But I’ll definitely be playing in the first three legs,” Que said.
He also hopes to compete in the Iloilo leg in November, as it is his wife’s hometown.
For now, Que’s focus remains on Eagle Ridge, where he finished fourth in 2022.
With his game in peak form and motivation high, Que aims to continue his winning ways and prove that experience still reigns supreme.
