BACOLOD CITY – A 57-year-old father and his son were arrested in a police gun raid in Sitio Cansilayan, Barangay 11, Victorias City, Negros Occidental on Saturday.

Police served a search warrant against the father, identified only as “Ricardo,” for violating Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and Republic Act 9516, or the illegal possession of explosives.

The warrant was issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 40 in Silay City and was executed by personnel of the Victorias City Police Station in coordination with the 65th Special Action Company and 6th Special Action Battalion.

The operation is part of heightened security measures ahead of the May 12 midterm elections.

Recovered from Ricardo’s residence were multiple unlicensed firearms, ammunition and explosives, including a Para-Ordnance P7-45 pistol with magazine and .45 caliber ammunition, a .22 caliber revolver with no serial number, an improvised shotgun with 12-gauge shells, assorted .38 caliber, .30 caliber and 5.56mm rounds, an MK26 hand grenade and a 40mm M203 high explosive cartridge.

During the same operation, Ricardo’s 27-year-old son, identified as “Marvin,” was also arrested after emerging from a nearby residence reportedly armed with a .38 caliber revolver.

He was quickly subdued, and police recovered the revolver—which had no serial number—and three live rounds of ammunition.

All confiscated weapons and explosives will undergo forensic examination.

Authorities said both suspects will face charges for their respective offenses.

Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, regional director of Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region, commended the successful operation as part of the region’s intensified campaign against loose firearms.

He emphasized the agency’s commitment to ensuring public safety and a secure electoral environment.
