By Felipe V. Celino

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — A 24-year-old man died after he was stabbed by a minor suspect while standing on a road Friday night, March 13, in Barangay San Nicolas, Pilar, Capiz.

Police identified the victim as Jaspher Bacli y Villanes, 24, while the suspect was identified only by the alias “Jorge,” a minor.

Both are residents of Barangay Sinamongan, Pilar, Capiz.

An investigation conducted by the Pilar police indicated that at around 10 p.m., while the victim was standing on the roadside, the suspect suddenly approached him and without a word stabbed him in the left portion of his back using a knife.

The victim was brought to Jesus Colmenares District Hospital in Balasan, Iloilo but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician at around 11:04 p.m.

The suspect voluntarily surrendered to Kagawad Renato Bebit of Barangay San Blas, Pilar.

Under Republic Act 9344, or the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006, minors in conflict with the law are subject to intervention and diversion programs rather than criminal prosecution, depending on their age and the circumstances of the offense.

Considering that the suspect is a minor, police turned him over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Pilar for proper disposition.

Police are currently investigating the incident to establish the motive behind the stabbing.
