A Symphony of Gratitude: UP Concert Chorus Presents ‘How Great Thou Art’

By Christine Marie Lim Magpile

This May, the University of the Philippines Concert Chorus (UPCC) or Korus invites you to an enchanting evening of music, reflection, and community.

Mark your calendars for May 16 and 17, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. as the UPCC takes the stage at the David M. Consunji Theater, Institute of Civil Engineering, UP Diliman. Admission is free, but seats are limited, so be sure to register early at tinyurl.com/upccHGTA

Presented by the UP Diliman Office of the Chancellor through the Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts, in partnership with the Konsert Korus Foundation, Inc., this event promises to be a heartfelt tribute to the divine and the human spirit. Collaborators like HallyUP, UP Tomo-Kai, Sunny16 Lab, and the UP Junior Philippine Conductors Association are also lending their support to make this a communal celebration of art and connection.

Under the masterful direction of Professor Janet “Jai” Sabas-Aracama, the UPCC will showcase its distinctive choreographed acapella style, a hallmark of the group that has captivated audiences far and wide. This special concert is not just a celebration of music but also a tribute to Ma’am Jai, commemorating her 25 years of artistic leadership and dedication to nurturing choral excellence.

The UP Concert Chorus has recently returned from a series of successful performances in Europe and Taiwan, where they garnered four prestigious awards at the 2024 Musica Orbis Prague Festival. This concert represents a heartfelt homecoming for the ensemble and an opportunity to share their musical journey with the local community.

The UPCC will be joined by special guests from the UPCC Dekada 2000s, adding a nostalgic element to the evening. Together, they will weave a tapestry of sound that will uplift spirits and resonate with the themes of faith and gratitude. This two-night concert will immerse the audience in the power of choral music and leave them inspired and uplifted.
