Abstract painting by emerging Ilonggo visual artist added to UPV art collection

Crispin “Ningnong” Acedera recently turned over his painting titled “Mga Pangalap sa Biernes Santo” (mixed media, 17.3 x 19.2 cm) to the Office of Initiatives in Culture and the Arts. The painting was included in an exhibition of abstract paintings, Abstracted Visions: The Contemporary Abstract Show, organized by art Show Philippines in July of this year. Prof Martin Genodepa, OICA Director, received the artwork on behalf of the university.

Acedera, who works at the UPV Campus Development and Maintenance Office in Iloilo City, belongs to a family of artists. Together with his three other siblings, he has been painting since he was in elementary school. In 2015 he began joining local and national art exhibitions.

His entry in the 2021 GSIS National Art Competition was shortlisted among the 1451 entries, one of only three works from Iloilo.

Acedera is a member of Hubon Ilonggo, the umbrella organization of all Iloilo- based artists, and Himbon Contemporary Ilonggo Artists Group, one of the most active artist groups in Iloilo City.

OICA is currently processing the donation papers for the artwork. (Office of Initiatives in Culture and the Arts)
