Locals and tourists will soon be able to easily navigate the barangays of Makato in Aklan as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Aklan District Engineering Office continues to build an access road traversing famous attractions in the town.

Based on the report of OIC-District Engineer Gener J. Abergas, Regional Director Nerie D. Bueno said the ₱33.3 million project in convergence with the Department of Tourism (DOT) spans 1.74 kilometers long and 6.10 meters wide.

“This access road intends to provide a roadway leading to beaches in Baybay and to Bakhawan Park along the river in Barangay Alibagon, which can potentially boost the economy and tourist industry in Makato, Aklan,” RD Bueno said.

“We had already concreted the 550-lineal meter portion of the road, and we are expediting the paving of the remaining portion to provide convenient and smoother travel access,” added Director Bueno.

Meantime, DE Abergas said the access road will help boost the marine economy in the area since it is located along a vast water area.

“Surrounded by wide water area, the neighboring barangays of Tugas, Calimbajan, Baybay, and Alibagon would benefit from this access road because travelers can be able to travel to fishing facilities, which will be a way to market their marine products,” Engr. Abergas highlighted. (DPWH-6)
