Double whammy for a 27-year-old man from Calinog, Iloilo.
After getting shot, Joey Leyble was arrested while undergoing treatment at a municipal hospital late afternoon of Aug. 10, 2020.
Police accounts said that Leyble was resting in a nipa hut at Sitio Pisaw, Barangay Binolusan when his assailant and his three companions unceremoniously barged in.
The gunman, 37-year-old Sonny Casiple, allegedly shot Leyble with a 12-gauge shotgun.
Police Captain Genesis Roque, Calinog police chief, said Casiple was with his three brothers-in-law identified as Gerald Latoza, an alias Hanggod Latoza, and an alias Gamay Latoza.
Leyble suffered a gunshot wound on his left lower jaw and was rushed to Calinog District Hospital.
The suspects fled after the incident and remain at large.
While at the hospital, Roque said they learned that Leyble is a respondent to a case for acts of lasciviousness in relation to Republic Act 7610 (Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act).
A P200,000 bail was recommended for his temporary liberty.
Meanwhile, Roque said their investigation indicated that personal grudges may have triggered the shooting incident.
“Parang may inggit itong si Casiple dahil din sa away sa lupa,” he said.
It was gathered that two murder cases have been filed in the past due to the land conflict.
