Veteran point guard Maverick Ahanmisi finally inked a deal with the newest PBA franchise Converge FiberXers and became their 14th player on their roster.
Ahanmisi was expected to be signed by the FiberXers after becoming the Alaska Aces’ primary point guard, the original franchise that Converge bought after announcing their departure from the PBA.
It was Converge’s assistant team manager Dickie Bachmann who confirmed the development and was also Alaska’s team governor during their competing days in the PBA.
Ahanmisi’s addition to the team will be a huge boost especially after coming off a close debut game against the Rain or Shine Elastopainters, one of the league’s most consistent playoff teams.
Converge was leading for the most part of the game but Rain or Shine’s experience helped them cruise to a 77-79 come-from-behind win sealed by a Beau Belga clutch three-pointer.
Ahanmisi wasn’t activated during the game but saw RK Ilagan and Alex Stockton, his backcourt teammates, answer the call and fill in his spot tremendously.
Despite Robbie Herndon’s departure with the team after getting signed by the San Miguel Beermen, Ahanmisi, Jeron Teng, and Allyn Bulanadi will be looking to lead Converge and earn their first-ever playoff trip in their debut season as a franchise.
Ahanmisi was a steady contributor during Alaska’s PBA Governor’s Cup campaign and averaged 8.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game.
Aside from his all-around game, the crafty point guard also showcased his versatile offensive skill set and also sank several clutch shots during Alaska’s nail-biting wins.
Ahanmisi is set for his Converge debut on Friday, June 10, as they are set to face Paul Lee and the Magnolia Chicken Timplados in the last game of the scheduled doubleheader.
