Another former rebel yields

BACOLOD City – Another alleged former member of the New People’s Army (NPA) voluntarily surrendered to the police in Barangay Zone 12-A, Talisay City, Negros Occidental over the weekend.

A certain “Ka Dante”, 70, an alleged member of the Northern Negros Front (NNF) under the Komiteng Rehiyon – Negros Bohol Cebu Siquijor (KR-NBCS) surfaced last Sunday through a well-executed intelligence operation, according to a report from Police Regional Office (PRO)-6.

This development came three days after a former rebel also surrendered to the police in Don Salvador Benedicto town on January 12.

The elderly rebel returnee turned over a .38 caliber revolver, an M2O3 grenade, and two live ammunition of a .38 caliber firearm.

He underwent a series of interviews and documentation for validation to avail the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).

In a statement, Police Brigadier General Sidney Villaflor, PRO-6 director, emphasized the significance of voluntary surrenders in dismantling insurgency networks.

Villaflor reiterated the commitment of the police to provide support and rehabilitation opportunities for those choosing the path of peace.
